Colonel John H. Evans
(1946-1948)

The first picture was taken around 1946 in Ichtratzheim, Alsace, France where Evans came to visit his Friends Marius and Marie-Louise Meyer. The second picture was taken in 1947/48 in Neuilly, near Paris when Evans was based at the US embassy.

In 1946 the Meyers received a large package from Mrs. Vernon Evans of Montclair, NJ (Marius kept the sender address tag.) This is why i first thought that Evans' firstname was Vernon. It turns out that Colonel John Evans, still living in France, had instructed the family of his older brother Vernon to send a package to his friends in France. Vernon Evans at the time was dispatched to the Asian front and was soon to become a general.
